OLD FUN

A two-minute trip through (Hirokazu Koreeda’s) Japan, music by London Grammar

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun …

Speaking of Pink Floyd, remember when we were young and there was that whole thing of watching The Wizard of Oz on mute and playing Dark Side of the Moon over it? … Well that’s the kind of thing I’m going for here. But for two minutes, not two hours.

The song “Wasting My Young Years” is likely familiar to many indie fans as it’s seven years old. But I just discovered it and have been so taken with it I decided to put it to a compilation of a Palme d’Or-winning Japanese filmmaker who I have been in awe of since I saw his movie After Life in 1998 probably at the Cumberland Theatre (RIP) in Toronto.

The following is easiest with a phone and a computer/tablet. To listen and watch simultaneously. (It’s annoying to try and do this with multiple tabs on a computer. Or was for me.)

Follow these easy instructions:

  1. ON SPOTIFY ON YOUR PHONE: click here or search for “Wasting My Young Years” by London Grammar.

—>Cue it up, get your headphones ready, and pause so it’s at 0:00.

  2. Cue up video below, a compilation of Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeeda’s movies created by Kogonada for Sight and Sound, MUTE THE AUDIO, pause at 0:00.

3. Press play on the Spotify song, press play on the muted video.

4. Stop video at 1:50

Let me know what you think!
