What Do We Know about Art? A 69-Word Van Gogh Anecdote

After being hospitalized for cutting off his ear, after a few weeks of treatment Van Gogh gives one of the doctors attending him the painting above, of a ward of the hospital. But the doctor refuses the gift. According to a pretty unwatchable documentary on Van Gogh I found on youtube (part of a “Famous Dutch Painters” series), the doctor refused because he didn’t like the painting at all.
